Trogir

This morning we said a fond farewell to the Kapetan Bota, and our fellow passengers. Jessie & I went for another walk through the old town, and managed to find the hidden garden again. Our pickup is 10:00am, and we have Anna, the same guide as yesterday to take us to Trogir. Nice comfortable air conditioned van. It takes about 1 hour to Trogir, as traffic is heavy in places. We drop our bags at Pasike hotel, and go on our walking tour with Anna. Trogir was a wealthy town, and the buildings and churches show it. Beautiful carvings and decorations. The town is on a small island, and some of the old walls still remain. The streets are like a maze, they run in all directions! Lots of small hotels, restaurants and shops. Kairos, god of enjoying the moment. He is the symbol of Trogir, reminding us to seize the day! We have coffee and an almond pastry called rafioli. The we walk over to the market to buy a sandwich and eat it in the park. By that time we can check into our hotel. The staff at the front desk are wearing traditional dress, really charming. The young strong man at the desk carries our bags up to the 2nd floor. What a pleasant surprise when we walk in the room; beautiful huge room with 4 poster bed and separate sitting area. The bathroom has a shower with many controls, I have no idea how to use it! Time for a little rest as it's hot and muggy.
A little later I take another walk around town. Some very nice clothes and lots of shops with specialty food items- olive oil, truffles, etc.We'll need to explore those later! Ian bought a couple of very nice linen shirts.
In the distance, in Split, it looks like it might be raining, but not in Trogir.
We are offered a welcome glass of wine by the hotel, very nice. When we ask later about buying some, it's not for sale. A small locally produced product.
We have dinner at the hotel, Misha & Hieke join us. Ian and I share a platter with 4 Dalmatian








specialties. A fish in wine & tomato sauce, squid & octopus in ink sauce with gnocchi, lamb with broad beans, and homemade pasta with beef sauce. All excellent, hard to say which we like best!
We walk Misha & Hieke back to their small hotel & enjoy the atmosphere of the town. Lots of people walking around, eating, drinking, listening to music. It's cleared off again, a beautiful evening.

Had a smooth journey, flights mainly on time. Enjoyed the Premium Economy service on Lufthansa. It was a bit of an epic getting from the airport to our hotel. First of all there was construction, and we had to take a long detour, then the driver had the wrong hotel to drop us at, finally all straightened out. Our hotel is in the Old Palace area, so not easy to find and many stairs. Thank goodness we had someone to show us the way! Lovely small hotel with only 4 spacious rooms. Great view of the swallows swooping over the rooftops! We went for a short walk along the waterfront to get our bearings, now for an early night.

Split day 2

Had a lovely relaxed day exploring Split. There are several markets, a large food one with beautiful produce, baked goods, meats and flowers. Cherries and strawberries are in season. We even saw someone selling live snails. The fish market was interesting, a huge variety of fish and shellfish, and very fresh.There are also souvenir markets with many lavender , honey and olive oil products as well as the usual trinkets. The unique feature of Split is the well preserved remains of the Diocletian's Palace. This takes up a great part of the old city, and over the years shops, hotels and restaurants have been built into it (including our hotel). A good part of the outer walls remain. The streets inside are narrow and twisting, fun to explore. It gets very busy here in the afternoon with lots of tour groups from all over the world. Trogir - last day

We are having a relaxing day. I went for a little walk , then a leisurely breakfast out on the terrace. Afterwards we go to the small fort,Kamerlengo. Not much inside (they use it for events) but great views from the top. Then a little wander through the town, and some shopping. The stores have lovely things, lots of lavender products, local olive oil, honey, jams and cookies. Linen & cotton clothing, simple styles but very nice. During the middle of the day the town is busy. There are lots of groups, and many tourists from Korea. Apparently a Korean reality show was filmed in Croatia, so now it's a popular destination. It's so nice wandering the small streets, as they stay nice and cool. For lunch we go over to Big Mama's at the market again. This time we share a Cevapi, a grilled ground meat sandwich with pureed red pepper spread and onions. Delicious! A lazy afternoon getting our packing organized and resting in the heat of the day.
